Solidus Snake
Known to the rest of the world as the President of the United States under the assumed name George Sears, Solidus Snake is one of three genetic super-soldiers secretly created by the U.S. government in the early 1970惯 from the genetics of the world惯 greatest living soldier, Big Boss [Status: Deceased]. Also included as one of the three of eight original zygotes that survived the Les Enfant Terrible Project. Unlike his genetic brothers Solid and Liquid Snake, Solidus possesses neither recessive nor dominant genes, but instead was endowed with a masterful balance of both. He served as President of the United States using the pseudonym George Sears for one term before his early resignment in the year 2005 due to suspicious circumstances involving military intelligence.
Solidus Snake was born in the early 1970惯, though the exact date remains [CLASSIFIED]. Using the same super-soldier genetics of Big Boss as Liquid and Solid Snake, Solidus was created artificially to be the greatest of all three phenotypes. While Liquid Snake had the 搒uperior?genotype and Solid Snake the 搃nferior?genotype, a third brother was needed in the Les Enfant Terrible Project. This third genotype was used to create a phenotype that the other two genotypes (Liquid and Solid) could not achieve. This third brother was to be a masterful combination of superior and inferior genes that would bring out the best traits of each in one creation, Solidus Snake. His early life remains shadowed in secrecy and virtually nothing is known except for his involvement in maintaining an extremely lethal militia of child soldiers somewhere in Africa in the mid-1980惯. He fought as a mercenary in Africa during the years of civil unrest that plagued the continent serving as both a combatant and a regional recruiter to various tribes and villages for children to serve in battle. Due to regional unrest, many of these child soldiers were orphans and often didn惰 have an option but to join the ranks, their parents killed in warfare and it惯 byproducts. Though this may be true, the majority of these elite child militias are believed by some to be have been comprised almost entirely of children bought or stolen from their homes before being placed in bondage to join these squads.
Whether Solidus Snake led or in fact only commanded these elite child soldiers into battle is unknown. Their targets were always all-adult militias which were caught unaware in ambushes that were cleverly executed using the childrens\\' assumed innocence and non-threatening nature as a sort of sneak attack. Using the psychological effects of children in battle to it惯 fullest extent, they were able to gain first strike advantage over their enemies and racked up impressive kill counts. It is estimated that Solidus trained hundreds of children in this way. Further, to keep his infantry of children under control off the battlefield, tolomine, a gunpowder agent, was mixed into every meal to sedate them. This bitter meal was the only form of sustenance offered to the children. Between battles, these meals mixed with tolomine kept the children drugged and controllable until the next attack was executed. Solidus Snake reviewed the children惯 performances in battle closely and weeded out the weaker members of the squad that did not perform as well. Using this technique, he maintained an efficient band of killers using a war惯 most terrible price to pay - a child惯 innocence. Solidus generously gave privileges to those children whose body counts were exceptionally high or expressed survival instincts which the others could learn from. Merits were given to those who showed unusual bravery and heroics in the face of great danger; a delicious treat here, an extra luxury there. Out of all the children Solidus obtained, there was one child with exceptional talent that stood out from the rest. A small blond haired boy with brilliantly colored bluish-green eyes that Solidus saw great potential in.
Solidus took the young boy whom he named Jack under his tutelage to train and perfect his techniques to make him into the most perfect and deadly of all his soldiers. What he saw in this apprentice, as he regarded him, was an efficient and determined killer who acted like a born soldier, exhibiting combat skills that separated him from all others. Quickly, Jack惯 body count far surpassed the others? which made him a standout character in his unit. He earned the monikers 揓ack The Ripper?and 揥hite Devil?from his peers because of his ferocious and thorough abilities to decimate anyone he chose as a target. Solidus Snake and Jack were unseperable, and their relationship rivaled that of father and son, though neither of them would ever truly know what it was like to be the son of any man. After deciding his time fighting a war he couldn惰 relate to personally was coming to an end, Solidus left his position as that of a child soldier recruiter, abandoning and forgetting Jack, the boy he came to know as his son.
Solidus Snake is believed to have left the African civil war scene altogether following his departure from Jack and his former units. Nothing is known about his agenda or personal life until many years later. However, he is believed by some anonymous government insiders who have the ear of various mercenary networks and terrorist cells that the man known as Solidus Snake was perhaps affiliated with extremists and radicals who once belonged to the defunct units operating out of Outer Heaven in 1995 and Zanzibar Land in 1999.
The only verified account of Solidus?next emergence after his command position in child units in Africa though, was his appointment to the Presidency of the United States shortly after the dawn of the new millennium. Using the pen name George Sears to serve out his presidency he won over the American people with charm and solid decision making. To combat the panic that swept the nation due to terrorist actions and threats, he assembled an anti-terrorist training squad named Dead Cell. Dead Cell惯 function was to stage hostile takeovers of vital government and military facilities to discover weaknesses in security and the response time of the military. All of Dead Cell惯 members were all experts in military strategy, weapons, explosives, and combat situations. They were second only to Fox-Hound, whose superiority shadowed every other unit of it惯 kind in the world.
As President, Solidus learned about the inner workings of the 搕rue?government. Unlike what the American citizens he served saw, his appointment to the Presidency was a clever ruse. He was only a playing piece to carry out the agenda of a shadowy organization who called themselves 揟he Patriots? He was appointed by The Patriots to be the head of a puppet government that held no real power, but acted as if they did to fool the rest of the world by carrying out the orders of The Patriots. Whether The Patriots picked Solidus Snake as the President because of his genetic legacy to Big Boss or otherwise, it is not known.
Feeling helpless and humiliated that such an oppression existed in the one country that symbolized freedom, Solidus Snake decided to strike out against The Patriots and regain control of what was rightfully his. Solidus began concocting a plan so devastating that The Patriots would have no other choice but to submit any and all power back to it惯 rightful owners - the people of the United States. However, his integrity as the 搕rue?Commander In Chief was on the line as well, meaning he would need to keep his distance from any action he took. Solidus decided he would need help from the inside, as well as the help of others from his days as a mercenary. His bargaining chip would be the greatest weapon ever devised by man - the infamous Metal Gear.
Metal Gear was a myth among most people, an awesome fantasy of the most dreadful kind. A nuclear-equipped bipedal tank was the worst weapon imaginable - and the greatest. However, The Patriots had renewed their interest in this 搈yth?and were indeed building a new prototype on a remote island in Alaska named Shadow Moses. Solidus had known about the development of Metal Gear in the facility on Shadow Moses Island for some time, and he saw his chance to eliminate The Patriots?rule in one fatal swoop. His plan called for the insertion of a renegade faction into the facility to capture the Metal Gear Rex, as it was called, and to use it against The Patriots themselves, who originally ordered it惯 conception. His plan, if executed correctly, would render The Patriots harmless and true freedom could then be restored. In order to do this, Solidus sent his most trusted man, a former Soviet agent who also was a member of Fox-Hound, Revolver Ocelot. Ocelot was to incite Liquid Snake, Solidus惯 brother and Fox-Hound惯 leader, to start an uprising at Shadow Moses.
Upon execution of the plan, The Patriots discovered that Solidus had double-crossed them and they sought revenge. To retrieve Metal Gear undamaged while also eliminating the terrorist threat invoked by Solidus, they needed an assassin who would be sure to get the job done. They need not look any further than Solid Snake, a man who had twice before saved the world single-handedly from nuclear annihilation in both Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Land. Using Pentagon specialists, a new biological assassination method was introduced. A communicable virus called Fox-Die which could be programmed to target specific people and kill them once it came in contact with the chosen subject. Solid Snake was injected with Fox-Die prior to infiltrating Shadow Moses with the intention of being the vector to spread the virus. Solid Snake succeeded in eliminating the terrorist threat by spreading Fox-Die among the members of Fox-Hound, thus killing all but Revolver Ocelot, but destroyed Metal Gear Rex in the process. Solidus?plans were ruined by the Patriots, and in turn, the Patriots?plans were ruined by Solidus, who started the insurrection. After the events on Shadow Moses Island, Solidus was forced to resign amid controversy, and, thanks to The Patriots, his health was scheduled to fail him shortly after he left office. It was just another way of covering up the fact that The Patriots would have him killed for his disobedience. Before that could happen though, Solidus went underground with the help of Revolver Ocelot and maintained a low profile which even The Patriots could not track.
Four years after the incident at Shadow Moses in the year 2009, Solidus Snake emerged from hiding to challenge The Patriots once again. Since his resignation, he kept in touch with the anti-terrorist group Dead Cell which he himself had also now joined. Solidus slowly began to use his influence in the group to try to turn the anti-terrorist organization renegade to fight the true enemies of freedom - The Patriots. Led by Col. Reginald Jackson, Dead Cell continued their anti-terrorist sieges all the while learning about The Patriots and their injustices with Solidus? help. Then, without warning, Col. Jackson was court martialed on charges of corruption and missappropriation of funds. For a while, they staged protests and large-scale petitions for the release of Reginald Jackson. Before their protests could find a large enough voice, though, it was silenced by the news of Jackson惯 death in prison. Solidus Snake knew at once The Patriots were behind this action and stoked the ever-growing rage of Fortune. No doubt this surprising turn of events was enacted by The Patriots, who wished to keep their very existence from being disclosed to the public. Dead Cell underwent a liquidation immediately and was dissolved, no longer backed by government funding. Dead Cell remained intact though, if only in physical form. Since Col. Jackson惯 death, Fortune, who was also a member of Dead Cell now, took the lead and switched tactics. Instead of just staging false terrorist incidents, the group began to stage true terrorist attacks on the civilian population they once protected. Solidus Snake then began to spearhead the attacks with Fortune惯 help, if only to provoke The Patriots ire. Solidus learned through Revolver Ocelot that The Patriots were developing a new Metal Gear weapon in the harbor of the Hudson River in upper New York. Unlike the past Metal Gears where R&D took place in remote facilities, this one was being developed right in the heart of America. Disguised as an offshore decontamination plant called The Big Shell, it was only a coverup to hide the massive development of a super Metal Gear, codenamed Arsenal Gear.
Solidus Snake seized The Big Shell with help from Olga Gurlukovich惯 private Russian army in order to steal The Patriots?weapon right out from under their noses and use it against them just as he planned to do during Shadow Moses. His plan included a revival of the idea of Outer Heaven, a militarized nation to itself. He planned to pull Arsenal Gear 搃ffline?by launching a nuke into the upper atmosphere and detonating it, thus creating a crushing wave of energy that would disable any electronic equipment for miles around. This would prevent The Patriots from being able to manipulate him when they extended their control to digital censorship.
However, Solidus惯 plans were again ruined by The Patriots, who used Fox-Hound once more to interfere. They sent in an operative named Raiden who had no real combat experience, only VR. Raiden managed to stop the launch of the nuclear missile while The Patriots kept it unknown to Raiden that he was their pawn all along. During the mission, Raiden learned from Solidus that he was the very boy which Solidus had raised and named Jack many years ago. Even more, Solidus Snake revealed to Raiden/Jack that he was part of a military experiment called S3, which stood for 揝olid Snake Simulation? all of his prior VR training was to see if a soldier on par with Solid Snake could be 揷reated?-- or so Solidus had been told by Revolver Ocelot. Solidus then explained that he was the one who killed Jack惯 parents years ago before he was forced into bondage. The two battled with good reasons for wanting the other dead; for Solidus, it was the nanomachines that The Patriots had implanted in Jack that would give vital clues to the identities and locations of The Patriots, and Jack merely fighting for his life. Even with Solidus Snake惯 experimental Army Body Suit that provided him with superhuman qualities, he was defeated by Jack and is now said to be [DECEASED]. |
