St. Valentine's Day
In 496 AD Saint圣 Pope教皇 Gelasius人名 named February 14 as \"Valentine's Day\". Although it's not an official holiday, most Americans observe遵守 this day.
Whatever the odd mixture of origins, St. Valentine's Day is now a day for sweethearts甜心. It is the day that you show your friend or loved one that you care. You can send candy to someone you think is special. Or you can send roses, the flowers of love. Most people send \"valentines\" a greeting问候 card named after the notes that St. Valentine's received in jail监狱. Valentine can be sentimental的愁善感的, romantic浪漫的, and heartfelt真心的. They can be funny and friendly. If the sender is shy, valentines can be anonymous匿名的.
Americans of all ages love to send and receive valentines. Handmade valentines created by cutting hearts out of color paper, show that a lot of thought were put into making them personal. Valentine's can be heart-shaped心形烶, or have hearts on them. In elementary schools小学 children make valentines for their classmates and put them into a large decorated装饰过的 box. On February 14, the teacher opens the box and distributes分发 the valentines to each student. After the student read their valentines they have a small party with refreshments点心和饮料.
For teenagers and adults, major newspapers throughout the country have a Valentine's Day offer. Anyone can send in a message, for a small fee费用 of course, destined for a would-be将来的 sweetheart, a good friend, an acquaintance熟人 or even a spouse配偶 of fifty years.
