<>One of the new gameplay mechanics in MGS3 that is not even present in the demo is called \"Cure.\" Basically, it enables you to heal Snake\\&#39s wounds manually. According to Hideo Kojima at the GC 2004 Press Conference, \"in MGS3, Snake can be injured heavily. He can get major burns, he can break a bone, he can get shot, and you\\&#39d have to take out the bullet by yourself.\" Cure mode, like eating and equipping camouflage, is done through the survival menu, which is activated by pressing the start button. From the very few screens of this mode we\\&#39ve seen, it is apparent that there is some sort of X-ray you can use in the mode to identify wounds, broken bones, and bullets lodged within Snake\\&#39s body more easily.

<>You may remember the leeches from the E3 2004 trailer. Well, Cure mode allows you to remove these stamina-sucking life forms from Snake\\&#39s body. Also, the infamous \\&#39spin Snake in the survival viewer to make him vomit\\&#39 technique displayed at E3 actually has gameplay relevance. If you eat something poisonous by mistake, making Snake vomit on purpose will rid the infection from your system. Pretty cool.

<>It\\&#39s worth noting that you don\\&#39t necessarily have to manually cure every wound; this is where stamina comes into the mix. If your stamina is high enough, wounds will heal themselves over time. It will most likely take longer for a wound to heal on it\\&#39s own than if you do it manually through the Cure mode. Kojima also points out that you may want to deliberately keep a wound or a scar on Snake, all of which affects the character model in-game. Let\\&#39s say, for example, Snake gets a cool looking scar on his face. You may want to leave it there to add to his \\&#39badass\\&#39 persona. Kojima says that if you forego using Cure throughout the entire game, your \\&#39Snake\\&#39 at the end of the game will be absolutely riddled with scars, lodged bullets, and other miscellaneous wounds. He suggests doing this would be an cool way to show off the battle scars of your Snake, and comparing it to your friends\\&#39 Snake would be an interesting way to see which one is more macho. Although, he goes on to say that it\\&#39s probably not a good idea, gameplay-wise, but he doesn\\&#39t get into specifics.

<>Which raises the question, how do wounds affect Snake\\&#39s in-game performance? Does it drain his stamina? Does it drain his life meter? Does it make his life meter recover more slowly? Do wounds on his face or any other body part affect face paint or camouflage effectiveness? Still unclear.

<>One thing is sure for now though – if you eat something poisonous, don\\&#39t forget to spin Snake in the Survival Viewer as long as you can, so he can throw up all the food and heal himself. You knew this feature wasn\\&#39t just for fun, didn\\&#39t you?

<>More to come on this gameplay mechanic as we learn new information.
