1UP: One of the oddities of the game was that you could call different radio frequencies and hear all kinds of music. Were you involved in that?
NH: Of course, yes. I used some fake artist names like "Starry K" and "66 Boys" as a sort of parody.
1UP: Oh, those aren't real artists? They're all you?
NH: All of them are my music!
1UP: They all have a very different sound.
NH: Those are all my compositions. The idea there was tunes from the ླྀs. Of course, we can't use the real music from the ླྀs because it costs too much to license. So I wanted to create a parody, but I didn't want to say, "This is me." I wanted it to seem like, well, that artist could have existed, to make it fun for the player. So, for one song, the artist was Sergei Mantis -- the real artist was Sérgio Mendes. [Laughs]
1UP: So it's almost a metagame, trying to figure these out. The "66 Boys" would the Beach Boys?
NH: Yes, yes. And the reason it's "66" is because we made the game in Roppongi Hills, and the address was Roppongi roku-chome. [Both "Roppongi" and "roku-chome" begin with the Japanese kanji for the number 6.] "Starry K" was Starry Mr. Kojima, and Chunk Raspberry was Chuck Berry.
